Shirley Little is a painter and printmaker. She is a graduate of Randolf-Macon Women's College and holds a major in religion and minors in art and English. Her education continued at the Schuler School of Art, MD, the Duncan Jordanston School of Art, Scotland, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She worked as assistant curator in the Delhom Gallery at the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC. Through formal education and workshops, Shirley has explored a wide variety of art. She draws on this experience.

Shirley Little feels it is important to work toward communicating her particular sense of beauty.

""Painting as I experience it, becomes a voyage of discovery. Some artists seem to feel that it is important to find ones own style, a niche to corner, and that is fine. It feels to me as though it is sounding one note variations, and I still want to explore many different notes. I love to venture into different worlds of my own making, and trust I can share what I am experiencing with the viewer, whether it be abstracts or realism.

My work is usually non-objective, but I also enjoy working both realistically and figuratively. My focus is on oils and printmaking, specializing in collagraphs. My subject matter is concerned with shape, line, and gesture. Creating art, for me, is an emotional experience. It is being in the zone. Time just goes."
